It is about qualifications, occupations and careers, and about employment and the labour market. This type of information taken as a whole is generally known as opportunity information.

Our aims

We know that information is a resource that must be managed. However, opportunity information is difficult to manage. It does not fit easily into universally defined categories or codes. The same piece of information is used for different purposes; the same needs can be met by different kinds of information. It is often duplicated but expressed in different ways and much of it goes quickly out of date.

Information overload is an increasing problem in this global information society, where many organisations collect similar information for similar purposes. For impartial advice and guidance to exist, practitioners and individuals must have access to information which is coherent, compatible, comprehensive, current and accurate. This is why the Learning and Training skills exists.
