The Skills Pledge is a public commitment by the leaders of companies and organisations to support all their employees to develop their basic skills and work towards a relevant qualification to at least Level 2 (equivalent to 5 good GCSEs).
The general purpose is to ensure that all staff are skilled, competent in what they do and able to make a full contribution to the success of the organisation. It is purely voluntary, but represents a corporate commitment of support. The very act of signing up also enables you to keep abreast of training issues and news through an online network, and leads you to finding the information that you need to carry out your Pledge.
Who benefits?
For employees who do not already have a full Level 2 qualification, the LSC (under the Train to Gain scheme) will provide funding to help them gain basic literacy and numeracy skills as well as their first full Level 2 qualification. This enhances their own career prospects, and helps them to improve proficiency in their current role.
For employers, the benefits of having a better skilled, more competent and confident workforce are immense. (See our case studies on pages 4 & 5.) Mistakes and accidents are more likely to be avoided. And with financial support from Train to Gain and other similar assistance such as Skills for Life (basic skills) and SkillWorks (work-based learning), the costs of training up your staff are kept to a bare minimum.
How do I sign up?
