Routeways
Looking to recruit new staff? How about growing your own?
According to a recent survey by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, four out of five employers nationally experience problems in filling one or more types of vacancy. And Merseyside’s rapidly developing economy is no exception to this trend.
Employers report that they have problems finding essential support staff in critical secretarial, administrative, technical and customer service roles. Among the principal reasons employers cite for their difficulties in recruiting staff are the lack of necessary skills and experience.
Find the potential and nurture it
It is making sense to many employers to overcome these recruitment and retention issues by identifying candidates who have the potential to grow but do not initially have all the skill sets. Often this means looking at individuals who may be over 50 or those who have been on incapacity benefit, lone parents or mothers returning to the labour market. While the candidate may be keen and motivated to work, their specific skill sets for the job may be below the standard you need.
Routeways could be the answer
The LSC’s Routeways programme not only indentifies the skill sets required but also provides pre-employability training for suitable candidates. Sometimes these are the softer personal skills, sometimes specialist knowledge and qualifications. But it’s employers who define what training they need.
For example, you might be opening up in a new location on Merseyside and are looking for 35 new staff or you may have lost a member of staff and are looking to replace them. Jobcentre Plus will help you identify suitable candidates and our specialist training partner will work with you to define what training they need and deliver it to your specification before they start work.
The Bottom Line?
We’ll provide and fund the training – you get the benefit of recruiting and retaining talented and skilled staff.
